The picks
Ooni Koda 2
Who it suits: Car campers and 4WD tourers who want gas only, a larger pizza than the 12-inch ovens, and a fitting for an Australian LPG bottle.
Strengths: Snowys and BCF both list it at A$749. Snowys calls it the evolution of the Koda 12 and lists a 14-inch plus cooking area, 16 kg, LPG, a single rear burner and 15,000 BTU/hr (4.4 kW). Snowys also lists fuel use of 0.32 kg for 10 pizzas. Both pages give 190°C to 500°C. BCF says it is ready to cook in about 20 minutes. The bottle fitting is LCC27. Warranty is 5 years with registration, and BCF says that registration is within 60 days.
Trade-offs: It is gas only, and 16 kg is a car or 4WD load. Snowys lists a 15 mm cordierite stone, while BCF’s comparison table lists 20 mm, so confirm the stone on the oven you buy. Snowys lists rotary piezo ignition. BCF’s feature text describes an electric spark ignition. The Ooni Connect hub is a separate accessory.

Ooni Karu 2
Who it suits: Campers who want wood or charcoal when the site allows a solid-fuel fire, and who may add gas later.
Strengths: Snowys titles this the Ooni Karu 2 Multi-Fuel Pizza Oven at A$649. A staff tip on that page says the Ooni Karu 12G has been renamed the Karu 2, with no change to the product. The address still contains “karu-12g”. BCF lists the Ooni Karu 2 at the same A$649. Both pages say it cooks on wood or charcoal from the box, reaches 450°C in 15 minutes, has a 500°C maximum, and can cook a pizza in about 60 seconds. It is a 12-inch oven with a 15 mm cordierite stone and a borosilicate glass door. Snowys lists 15.5 kg. BCF lists 15.3 kg. Warranty is 5 years with registration, within 60 days on the BCF page.
Trade-offs: Gas is extra. Snowys lists the Ooni Gas Burner for Karu 12 and Karu 2 at A$179. Use it with the door off and the chimney on. It has an LCC27 connection, fuel use of 0.34 kg per hour, and weighs 0.95 kg, or 1.37 kg with the hose. The oven is tall in use. Snowys lists 41.7 cm wide, 72.8 cm deep and 75.4 cm high, packed at 75 x 72 x 40 cm. BCF’s table lists 41.7 x 78 x 75.4 cm, and says the legs fold and the chimney comes off for travel. Measure the boot.

Gozney Arc Lite
Who it suits: Campers who want a gas oven lighter than the Koda 2, at the same A$649 as the Karu 2, and who are happy with a 12-inch pizza.
Strengths: Snowys lists the Arc Lite at A$649 and 12 kg. It runs on LPG, reaches 500°C, and fits a 12-inch pizza. In-use size is 43 x 48.1 x 29.7 cm, with a removable 12 mm cordierite stone. Fuel use is 12.24 MJ/h. Ignition is rotary piezo, the bottle fitting is LCC27, and the hose and regulator are included. Warranty is 1 year, or 5 years with registration.
Trade-offs: Snowys describes it for balconies, backyards and rooftops, so the camping case is the 12 kg weight. Packed size is 80 x 35 x 40 cm, which is long for a small boot. The cover is separate, and Snowys showed one at A$59.
Gozney Tread
Who it suits: Campers who want a gas oven sold as a rugged portable, and who will pay the higher Snowys price for a 12-inch pizza.
Strengths: Snowys lists the Tread at A$899 and 13.5 kg. It fits a 12-inch pizza on a removable 12 mm cordierite stone. Fuel is LPG, through one lateral burner, at 12,621 BTU (3.7 kW) and 273 g/h. Ignition is rotary piezo and the bottle fitting is LCC27. The box includes a 1.2 m gas hose with regulator, a burner guard, a stone adjustment tool and a Torx wrench. Warranty is 1 year, or 5 years with registration.
Trade-offs: The Arc Lite is the lighter and lower-priced 12-inch gas oven on Snowys. A Snowys answer says the Tread’s pictured stand is sold separately.
Everdure Kiln P Series
Who it suits: Campers who want the stone to turn the pizza, and who may cook from a small propane canister or a full LPG bottle.
Strengths: BCF lists the Kiln P Series at A$849. The 13-inch stone rotates, and BCF says a 13-inch pizza cooks in under 2 minutes. Output is 14.77 MJ / 4.1 kW. Weight is 17.5 kg, and the listed size is 443.99 mm wide, 498.6 mm deep and 292.86 mm high. It runs on propane canisters or an LPG cylinder. The box includes an LCC27 hose and regulator plus a propane canister connection. A display shows stone temperature. The spec table lists a 2-year warranty.
Trade-offs: You need 4 AA batteries, and BCF says they are not included: 3 for the display and turntable, and 1 for the ignitor. The listing quotes up to 50 hours for the display and turntable. Check which propane canister the connection takes, because the page names both a canister and an LPG cylinder. It is heavier than the Arc Lite, the Tread and the Portofino 12. BCF marks it online and select stores.
Gasmate Portofino 12
Who it suits: Campers who want the lowest price and the lowest weight in this guide, for a 12-inch gas pizza.
Strengths: BCF lists it at A$399.99 and 10.9 kg. Size is 41 cm wide, 64 cm deep and 32 cm high. It has a 12-inch stone, a 16.2 MJ/h cast iron burner, electronic ignition and a spatula. The LCC27 Safe Lok regulator and hose are included and certified to Australian gas standards. BCF says a pizza can cook in as little as 90 seconds after preheating, and points the oven at the backyard, balcony or campsite.
Trade-offs: The listing does not state a maximum temperature or a preheat time. Judge it on weight, price and the 12-inch stone. It is gas only.
Gasmate Portofino 16
Who it suits: Families who want a 16-inch pizza from an oven that still packs in a car.
Strengths: BCF lists it at A$619.99 and 17.4 kg, with a 16-inch stone and a spatula. Output is 28.8 MJ/h, with electronic ignition. BCF says pizzas cook in 90 seconds after about 5 to 10 minutes of preheating. Size is 60 cm wide, 64 cm deep and 37 cm high. The LCC27 Safe Lok hose is included and certified to Australian gas standards.
Trade-offs: It is 17.4 kg, against 10.9 kg for the 12-inch Portofino, and it is still gas only. The page does not list a maximum temperature. BCF marks it online and select stores.
How to choose
Carry weight comes first. Listed weights run from 10.9 kg on the Portofino 12 to 17.5 kg on the Kiln P Series, before the bottle or stand. Snowys lists the Arc Lite at 80 cm packed, and the Karu 2 at 75 cm packed and 75.4 cm high in use. In October 2026 Snowys showed the Koda 2, Karu 2, Arc Lite and Tread unavailable for delivery.
Match the fuel to the camp. The Koda 2, Arc Lite, Tread, Kiln P and both Portofinos are gas ovens. The Karu 2 uses wood or charcoal unless you add the burner. Check the campground and any fire rules before you pack wood. Gas is the simpler plan where solid fuel is restricted. Confirm the local rule for appliances too.
Every gas hook-up here is LCC27, the usual fitting on an Australian LPG bottle. The Kiln P also lists a propane canister connection. The Portofinos, Arc Lite, Tread and Kiln P include a hose and regulator. On the Koda 2, Snowys lists LCC27 at the bottle and 3/8 SAE at the appliance, and that page does not say a hose is in the box, so confirm it before a trip.
Stone size is the pizza size. Twelve inches: Karu 2, Arc Lite, Tread and Portofino 12. Thirteen inches: Kiln P. Fourteen inches: Koda 2. Sixteen inches: Portofino 16.
Treat cook times as retailer claims. The Karu 2 pages quote about 60 seconds. BCF quotes about 20 minutes until the Koda 2 is ready, under 2 minutes on the Kiln P, and as little as 90 seconds on the Portofinos. The Portofino 12 page gives no peak temperature.
Add the extras. The Karu burner is A$179 at Snowys, the Tread stand is separate, and Snowys listed an Arc Lite cover at A$59. The Kiln P needs 4 AA batteries.
Cook outside, then register the warranty. The listings are for outdoor use, on a stable surface clear of the tent, awning and dry grass. Let the stone cool before you pack it. The Kiln P page says to wash the stone with water only, and not to cool a hot stone with water. Ooni’s 5-year cover on the BCF pages needs registration within 60 days. Gozney’s Snowys listings show 1 year, or 5 years with registration. The Kiln P table shows 2 years. The Portofino pages do not state a warranty period.
FAQ
Can I take a pizza oven camping in Australia?
Yes, when it fits the vehicle and the fuel is allowed where you stay. These ovens weigh from 10.9 kg to 17.5 kg before the bottle. LCC27 gas fittings suit an Australian LPG bottle. Wood and charcoal on the Karu 2 depend on the campground and the fire rules.
Which oven suits a simple car-camping weekend?
The Ooni Koda 2, for gas and a 14-inch stone at A$749 on both Snowys and BCF. The Portofino 12 is the lighter, cheaper gas oven, at 10.9 kg and A$399.99. The Karu 2 is the one for wood or charcoal.
Do I have to turn the pizza?
The Kiln P listing says the rotating stone turns the pizza, using its batteries. The other ovens here do not list a rotating stone, so plan to move the pizza while it cooks.
Is the Karu 2 the same oven as the Karu 12G?
On the Snowys listing, yes. The staff tip says the Karu 12G has been renamed the Karu 2, with no product change, and the address still says karu-12g. A different oven is sold as the Karu 12, so read the product title on the page.
What gas do these ovens take?
The gas ovens and the Karu burner list an LCC27 connection for an LPG bottle. The Kiln P also lists a propane canister connection. Snowys quotes 0.32 kg of gas for 10 pizzas on the Koda 2, and 273 g per hour on the Tread.
Can I run one under the awning?
The listings say outdoor use. Give the flame and the hot stone open air, a stable base, and clearance from tent fabric, a low awning and dry grass. Use the clearances in the manual.
